RAM (Random access memory)
Ram is an abbreviation for the word random access memory. It defined as a kind of computer memory which can be access arbitrarily and randomly. The byte of the memory can be reached without touching the previous byte. RAM can found in computers and other devices and it is the most common type of memory. There are a lot of devices that includes memory for example printers. (WEBOPEDIA, n.d). Also random access memory defined as a form of computer data storage. It is used in a computer to save a data and instruction that is temporary in the memory and that is needed to complete tasks. It also called as a volatile memory because it loses the data when the power is switched off. Random access memory also can assess by the CPU. More RAM is usually referred refer to faster computer. (Fisher.T,(n.d). RAM is also known as main memory, internal memory, primary storage, memory "stick", RAM "stick".
Type of RAM:
There are main type of ram SDRAM, DDR and Rambus DRAM. It doesn’t matter nearly as much as how much of it you've got, the use of basic old SDRAM memory will result in slow you down.
SDRAM (Synchronous DRAM):
It is not delay of older EDO DRAM but a new type of DRAM altogether. It start to run out at 66 MHz, while the older fast page DRAM and EDO max run out at 50MHz. SDRAM is able to gage to 133 MHz (PC133) formally, and informally up to 180MHz or higher. As a new group of memory such as DDR and RDRAM are required to get good performance so a processor get faster. (computermemoryupgrade,n.d).
DDR (Double Data Rate SDRAM):
This type of memory “basically doubles the rate of data transfer of standard SDRAM by transferring data on the up and down tick of a clock cycle”. It works at 333MHz. it is a 2.5volt technology that use 184 pins in its DIMMs. Physically it is unsuited with SDRAM. The similar thing between them is that it uses a similar parallel bus that can lead to make the implement easier than RDRAM which is different technology. (computermemoryupgrade,n.d).
Rambus DRAM (RDRAM):
This type is higher price despite this however, it gave the blessing for the consumer market, and it will be also the only choice of memory for Intel's Pentium 4. It is a sequential memory technology that reached three flavors which are PC600, PC700, and PC800. This type of memory designed different channels such as those in Pentium 4 motherboards, are currently at the top of the heap in memory throughput, particularly when matching with PC1066 RDRAM memory. (computermemoryupgrade,n.d).
Quantity of RAM:
The bandwidth of the graphics RAM can have a direct effect on performance while the quantity of RAM is unlike the bandwidth because it doesn’t have an impact on the speed on a graphics card performs. But it has indirect impact on performance sometime. The quality of RAM is measured in megabytes (MB) or gigabytes (GB).
Function of RAM:
Random access memory performs as short-term memory for computer. It is a data storage which can use temporary to save data and it can reached through the CPU. RAM has a capacity to retrieve data when the computer is on only. (Computers and Electronics, (n.d))
Compatibility with motherboard:
Compatibility between RAM and mother board is important factor for buying memory upgrade for the computers. To keep the system working the factor of compatibility must provide otherwise the system won’t work. This is the crucial reason to offer innovation tool that make finding compatible RAM easy. (Jally wallet, n.d)
Summary:
To sum up in the previous paragraph I mentioned the definition of random access memory. After that I explained some types of RAM. Then I moved to explain the quantity of random access memory. After that I mentioned the function of RAM. Finally, I explained the compatibility with motherboard.
