motherboard
The motherboard is mainly the computer. Without it nothing will work. Everything into the computer is connected with the motherboard, which makes it very important. Modern boards contain PCI-Express (PCI-E) slots that are much faster than the old PCI. You might want to look at the processor and the motherboard at the same time. Make sure your motherboard has enough USB slots for all your peripherals. Although the performance chart states MicroATX as the lowest performance motherboard, that is not always true. Though the MicroATX form factor has fewer expansion slots, it is often similar in performance to its larger cousins. It is indeed possible to create a MicroATX system that has high performance and reliability.
The description of Motherboard:
It is referred to as the mb, mainboard, mobo, mobd, backplane board, base board, main circuit board, planar board, system board, or logic board on Apple computers. The motherboard is a printed circuit board that is the basis of a computer and allows the CPU, RAM, and all other computer hardware components to purpose and connect with each other.
Below is a graphic illustration of the ASUS P5AD2-E motherboard and some basic explanations of each of the major portions of the motherboard. Clicking on the below image will give you a larger more detailed version of the below picture.

Motherboard components:
There are many components in the motherboard. However, I will describe about some of in detail. Let know some of the parts in it.
1. Expansion slot :
It is referred to as a bus slot or expansion port, an expansion slot is a slot located inside a computer on the motherboard or riser board that consents additional boards to be connected to it. For example, if you wanted to install a new video card in the computer you'd buy a video expansion card and install that card into the well-matched expansion slot. Below some of the expansion slots usually found in IBM compatible computers as well as other types of computers and the devices usually related with those slots.
Example of Computer expansion slots :
· AGP (video card)
· AMR (sound card)
· CNR (Network and sound card)
· EISA (Network and video card)
2. Heat sinks:
A heat sink is an electric device that includes either a fan or a a peltier device to keep a hot parts such as a processor cool. There is two types of the heat sink: active and passive.
Active heat sinks apply power and are usually a fan type or some other cooling devices. If we buy an active heat sink we recommended to a fan with ball bearing motors that last for longer time. Sometimes they called thses type a HSF which is a short for heat sink and fan,
Passive heat sinks is 100% reliable, they have no mechanical components. It is made of an aluminum-finned radiator that that dissipates heat through convection. For Passive heat sinks to work to their full capacity, it is recommended that there is a steady air flow moving across the fins. In the picture to the right, is an example of a heat sink that is both active and passive.
Heatspreaders are another name for heat sinks and commonly used to describe the covers on computer memory that helps dissipate the heat produced by the memory.

3. Memory slot :
A memory slot, memory socket, or RAM slot is what allows computer memory (RAM) to be inserted into the computer. Depending on the motherboard, there will usually be 2 to 4 memory slots (sometimes more on high-end motherboards) and are what control the type of RAM used with the computer. The most common types of RAM are SDRAM and DDR for desktop computers and SODIMM for laptop computers, each having many types and speeds. Below there is an example of memory slot.
When buying a new computer or motherboard, pay close attention to the types of RAM the memory slots will allow to be used, so you are familiar with what type of RAM to buy for your computer. It is also important to note how many available memory slots are available in your computer. It is not uncommon for some computers to have all memory slots working, which means if you wanted to upgrade your computer memory some or all of the memory currently installed would need to be removed first.

Motherboard form factors:
As computers progressive, so have motherboards. There are many examples of the motherboard form factors and additional information about each of these form factors including ATX the most commonly used motherboard form factor today. For example:
· AT
· ATX
· BTX
Full ATX
· NLX

How the case should be chosen:
Select your motherboard and your CPU (central processing unit) at the same time.
The exchange between the CPU and motherboard is named the socket. To select the correct socket the person has to think and see the best chipset that available. There are two types of CPUs are either AMD or Intel. Motherboards openly advertise which CPU they support and the sockets supported.

Summary :
If there is no motherboard the computer will not worked. so the motherboard is important compnent of the computer. It has many component on it. For example, Expansion slot which have many types like; AGP (video card) , AMR
( sound card ) and CNR ( Network card). Secondly, heat sinks which help the computer to cool it by the fans that has it. it has two types like; active heat and passive heat sinks. The third one is memory slot which insert the things on it like the RAM. when we chose the motherboard we have to chose the CPU too. the best two things are AMD or Intel.
